Pentecost terrorised by escapees

COMMUNITIES in the whole of Pentecost are now living with fears, following reports that three of the six escapees still at large are walking around the island.

A source from Pentecost said that not only women are scared but children and men, who usually walked freely to their gardens, are terrorised and are calling upon the government the police and the Correctional Department to intervene immediately and do something to recupture the escapees and send them back to their cells.

"Before our youths used to sleep or spent sometimes late in the nakamel, but there is no more such activities. We are not safe in our own homes,” the source said.

The Independent understands that six of the eight detainees who escaped from the Vila cells are still at large.

A source from the shipping industry said they had not noticed them in their departures and arrivals at the Vila wharf.

The Independent was told that some of those escapees are wearing women's clothes - and it's not the first time. It happened last year, with detainee Paul Shem who had spent almost a year outside the prison because he was wearing 'island dress' or motherhubbard.
He is one of those who is still on the run.
