The decision taken by suspended Port-Vila Lord Mayor, Willie Pakoa Sateearoto to quit the Union the Moderate party (UMP) and return to the Green Confederation Party was labeled by the GCP's President Moana Carcasses Kalosil Marikitong as the return of the Prodigal Son.
"As the President of Green Party, I'm responsible of the party members and supporters. I'm like a father who's responsible for his sons and children. As an active member within the Party when you left the party, I was hurt like a father would be hurt if his son decides to forsake his home", Carcasses said.
He went on saying: "But today as you have found your way back to where you belong. I am happy to welcome you home again. This ceremony reminds me of the bible story of the Father that welcomes home his Prodigal Son".
While performing the custom ceremony to rejoin the Green Party on Friday 22nd June 2012 at 21 Jump Street (Tagabe Side River area), Sateearoto explained that he resigned as the Port-Vila regional President of the GCP to join the UMP because him and his electors were so upset that though the party was part of the Alliance political group and the Kilman Coalition government, the Municipal Council that he was leading was suspended by the Minister of Internal Affairs.
Carcasses responded that the Green party was part of a coalition government made up of different parties and that it is normal to that certain coalition partner would eventually have some disagreement or certain contentious issues.
"In a political party we're like a family or a team. In good times or rough times we have to be patient and stand together no matter what", the Minister for Finance and President of the Green Confederation Party said.
Mr. Sateearoto said after a meeting between the chiefs and people of Tongariki island residing in Port-Vila and the current Member of Parliament for Sheperds Outer Islands Toara Daniel (elected through UMP tiket but now member of GCP), they convened that he had to forsake his allegiance for the Union of Moderate Parties and return to the Green Party.
Several months ago when he performed a similar custom ceremony to join the UMP, Sateearoto told the leaders of the Union of Moderate Parties that he had decided to return to his mother party (UMP) because of suspension the Port-Vila Municipality.
He also said that he was moving with his 400 supporters comprised of people of Tongariki, Tongoa and the Sheperds outer islands to join the UMP.
During the reconciliation ceremony with the Green party's President, Willie pakoa Sateearoto vowed to support the candidature of Mr. Moana Carcasses at the upcoming General elections.
