Education Minister, Charlot Salwai says 20 percent of Vanuatu students studying in Fiji and New Caledonia have failed their examinations.

He says it may have not been on the part of students but could be due to an incapable  curriculum system adopted by Vanuatu.

Mr Salwai says the student’s results has prompted the need for a review in Vanuatu’s curriculum system.

Principal Passport Officer in the Immigration Department in Port Vila, Henry Tamusiro says once the Passport (Amendment) Act for 2009 is gazetted, they will begin to issue diplomatic and official passports.

Mr Tamusiro says the old process of issuing passports will cease.

This means all passports will be issued only at the Immigration Office at the Department of Immigration.

This will be done in line with the new procedure specified in the newly amended Act.

Police are searching for a mother from Malo for allegedly killing her 4 month old baby and dumping him into the sea.

This was confirmed by Police Commander North Willie Samuel this morning.

He said two suspects in connection to the killing were arrested and one is still on the run.

Police Commander North said those who are allegedly involved must face the full force of the law.

Willie Samuel strongly condemned such action and says if mothers are facing problems with unwanted babies they must speak with their community leaders to find a solution rather than resort to taking the life of an innocent baby.
