Six years prison for rape of expat
A SANTO man, 31, has been sentenced to six years imprisonment after he admitted raping a female expat on the West Coast, Santo.
The expat, who could not be named, told the court that she had been advised she needed a guide to visit some of her friends working in other remote communities on the island.
Justice David Chetwynd said that on August 24, 2016, she and a male local left the house early in the morning.
He said that even though the victim is an expat, the two were not strangers.
He said she had been living in the area for several years and the defendant referred to her as Tawi or sister in-law because at the time she was living with his in-laws.
